DESCRIPTION
In The Hunt is a submarine shooting game that is well-known among Irem fans for its vibrant graphics and detailed animation, which are immediately reminiscent of Metal Slug - and for good reason, as the game was designed by the same staff that would later on form Nazca Corporation.
Developed on the Irem M92, which was a very powerful system at the time, this game is a great challenge to bring to the Neo Geo and requires a technical and gameplay overhaul.
Still, this demo shows how some of the graphical effects used in the game can be replicated on the Neo Geo hardware.
You can download the ROM demo of the game that you can run on emulators, MiSTer fpga, or original hardware via NeoSD (Darksoft and BlackBit flashcarts as well as genuine or 3rd party cartridges will have issues running it).
This project was not endorsed or approved by Irem, and we are not affiliated to them in any way. No challenge is intended to their IP.

Hey there, I hope you don't mind. but I included this awesome game in with the best Neo Geo homebrews of 2025
Sound and graphics on par with the arcade version but very (very) short - you don’t even get an extra or can fight against planes or so. I‘m curious if this will have the slow downs from other versions.
Call it an early prototype, proof of concept, whatever :) which shows that main game effects are possible at 60fps on the neogeo with some action on screen ^^
are you finishing this? bc i would pay an appropriate price for the finished port.
It's currently 'under development' and as it is a huge project to complete you are welcome to contribute ;-)
Once finished the game will be free just like Double Dragon One, Teot and Bad Dudes Burger Edition (tbr). ^^
