A downloadable game

DESCRIPTION

In 1995 Double Dragon was released on the Neo Geo. It was one of the very last titles by the legendary company, Technōs Japan, and an excellent Fighting Game - but not the beat 'em up many fans expected, and have been waiting for ever since.

30 years later, Double Dragon One aims to fill this gap. It uses the amazing sprites drawn traditionally by the artists at Brizo Interactive (a studio composed of former Brezzasoft and SNK employees) for the iOS version of the game released in 2011, and sets them on classic 1980s and 1990s arcade beat 'em up stages, to offer players an experience that looks as close as possible to what a Double Dragon could have been if Technōs Japan and SNK had collaborated on such a project for the Neo Geo back in the day.

The development of Double Dragon One is now complete, and we're inviting you to download a playable demo from this page. It obviously only offers an incomplete overview (many improvements in animation, gameplay, scoring, framerate, etc as well as the attract mode are missing), but still allows you to get a fair overview of the game, from its entire first level, Slums.

The complete game offers the next 3 levels of the classic by Technos Japan (the factory, the forest, and the enemy base), all split into 2 parts each. An entire run represents about 25 minutes of savage brawling, during which Billy and Jimmy Lee face the most emblematic Black Warriors of the series, and of its first episode in particular, with the wide range of martial art moves that made them the legends they are. Of course, they can also pick up the weapons (knives, bats, whip, drum and dynamite) they will find on their way to the iconic final stage, the infamous warlord Willy, and the liberation of the beautiful Marian.

The gameplay aims to stay true to the original spirit of the series, with the additional flexibility offered by the 4 buttons of the Neo Geo - this is not meant to play like Streets of Rage or Final Fight.

In short:

  • solo or two-player game following the traditional formula (P1 = Billy, P2 = Jimmy)
  • 7 levels (1+ 3x2)
  • 4 bosses and about twenty different enemies
  • 5 weapons
  • about twenty combat moves
  • juggles galore, chainable between players
  • a simple, yet competitive scoring system
  • 8 difficulty levels (designed to be accessible to casual players, and tricky for the most die-hard of them; no set back to the start of the level when spending a credit, the game can be credit fed, but offers a real challenge in one credit play)
  • 424MEGS of smashing dirty punk mouths!

FAQ

Q: Is this a Neo Geo game, that really works on an actual Neo Geo system or any system emulating it?

A: Yes.

Q: When will it be released?

A: This year (2025). Join our discord to get the latest news about it.

Q: Is this an official game??

A: No, not at all. This game was not approved by Arc System Works, Technōs Japan , Brizo Interactive, SNK, or anyone. It uses plenty of assets from many different sources (graphics from Video System and Capcom games; music by Vomitron and others). Call it unofficial, homebrew, fan game, or bootleg.

Q: Will you port the game to [insert system name here]?

A: No, this will be a Neo Geo exclusive. We can't make an Neo Geo CD version as the game wouldn't fit in a single loading, and multi-loading is not something we know how to do... We don't know if anyone does, or if it's lost with the riddle of steel. And, no , no Megadrive either.

I'm trying to use the NeoGeo rom in RetroArch and I can't figure out which core to use. FBneo said it was from an unknown romset and all the other cores I tried didn't work.

A new game/rom needs time to be supported by emulators, i'm sure it will be soon supported by FBNeo and RetroArch, just be patient, alternatively  you can ask emulators authors/team to support the game ;-)

So, the NeoGeo rom isn't supported by emulators?

not yet bcoz it's new
